Produce a customised promotional item with a company logo at a relatively small quantity (less than 200). This made it perfect for digital printing as there is no expensive set up costs with digital printing systems.
We settled on personalised USB sticks. Even though we had quite a choice of options to print with our Mimaki printer as it will print to any flat surface less than 2 inches thick and up to 1300mm x 2500mm in size.
To produce this, we firstly had to accurately measure the size of the USB sticks to create a jig for them to sit in on the flat bed printer. Once we had this we set up the art work within the jig locations, which enabled the design to be printed directly in the middle of the USB. We cut the jig out of 5mm foam PVC allowing for the USB to sit comfortably in the jig and stop it from moving on the printer. On our first trial we found that the adhesion of the ink was not as good as we wanted. However, after applying our amazing new adhesion promoter the inks would no longer scratch off!
The design, we could print any design onto the USB sticks, however too small and you won’t get the full effect. Ours were flat with a metal casing, but obviously USB come in many styles.
